Transport Waxed Cowhide Jacket
Description
Our Real Simons Transport jacket retains every defining heritage detail of the classic silhouette, from the corduroy collar to the reverse slanted pockets and two-way zipper construction. Where we elevate the design is in material: we reimagine the traditional waxed cotton build in premium whole-cut ECO waxed calfskin, bringing richer luster, stronger shape retention, and a uniquely evolving patina that deepens with every wear.
Born for both rural field work and daily urban wear, the original Transport design broke from traditional long hunting coats with its cropped hem, roomy oversized body and armholes, and signature slanted hand warmer pockets — a rare functional detail among heritage field jackets that made it a staple for modern casual styling.
The Transport silhouette originates from the legendary British waxed outerwear lineage, celebrated as one of the most modern iterations within the classic field jacket family.
It carries the distinct DNA of a classic British field jacket, including:
- Corduroy contrast collar
- Reverse slanted hand warmer pockets
- Interior placket pocket
- Two-way zipper closure
- Short, wide oversized silhouette
The only notable upgrade is our whole-cut main body construction, which eliminates redundant seams for a cleaner silhouette and more even patina development over time. Crafted from our custom ECO waxed calfskin, the jacket is substantial yet supple — delivering both timeless heritage aesthetics and long-term everyday wearability.
Details
Crafted from our exclusive 2025 custom-developed Horween Style ECO Wax Calfskin. Sourced from premium French Brook calf hides, tanned via a dual-process method with US Allied Chemical & Dye materials, the 1.2mm full grain leather offers fine pore texture, firm structure, and a rich two-tone patina that develops naturally with wear. As a natural full grain hide, minor variations in grain texture, pigmentation and healed marks are inherent and part of the leather’s unique character.

The Transport Jacket (British Hunting Heritage)
Rooted in the century-old British waxed field jacket tradition, this design draws inspiration from the iconic Transport silhouette — one of the most modern and wearable styles in the classic hunting outerwear lineage. In an era when field coats were strictly built for rural work, it deftly blended practical outdoor functionality with the emerging casual style of mid-century urban life.
It features a two-way zipper closure, corduroy contrast collar, a slanted pocket layout, and a cropped oversized fit — showcasing the streamlined, functional design language of classic British outerwear.
The whole-cut leather construction sets our Real Simons Transport jacket apart, making it truly distinctive among standard waxed cotton versions of the style.
Replica Note
Rooted in mid-century British field jacket heritage, the Transport silhouette has long been celebrated as one of the most wearable modern takes on the classic waxed hunting coat. Most modern reproductions narrow the fit and streamline pocket details, drifting away from the original’s relaxed, functional character.
This edition restores the full original specification:
- Signature corduroy contrast collar
- Reverse slanted hand warmer pockets
- Interior placket chest pocket
- Two-way zipper front closure
- Authentic short, wide oversized proportions
Our remastered upgrades:
- Shell upgraded from traditional waxed cotton to whole-cut full grain waxed calfskin for superior durability and richer patina
- Hardware fitted with period-correct YKK MILDEX snaps and custom IDEAL #7 two-way zippers
- Lining retains classic British tartan pattern, crafted in 200g/m² cotton for balanced all-season comfort
- Whole-cut main body construction reduces seams for a cleaner silhouette and more even wear over time

Leather use and maintenance knowledge
- Leather/fur/textile products are consumables. Proper maintenance can extend their service life.
- When wearing it daily, you should pay attention to protecting the leather surface to prevent scratches by hard or sharp objects, and avoid contact with oil, acidic and alkaline substances
- Leather products are strictly prohibited from washing, tumbling and drying, and long-term exposure to the sun.
- If they are wet by rain or moisture, you can use a soft dry cloth to gently wipe off the surface water stains and dry them in a cool and ventilated place. Do not wear before it is completely dry
- Leather should not be rubbed with water or gasoline, as water will make the leather hard and gasoline will volatilize the oil in the leather and cause it to crack
- Natural fur/fur collar will have slight curls after long-term wearing or washing. Detergents may cause hair loss at some edges, so dry cleaning is recommended
- Colorless maintenance oil should be applied before changing seasons and storage to prevent leather aging and cracking. Before application, a small area should be tested on a hidden part to prevent discoloration caused by chemical reactions between maintenance oil and leather
- Store in a hanging position and do not fold or press heavily to prevent wrinkles on leather/fur
- Mothballs for mildew and insects should not come into direct contact with leather
Is the Transport jacket made of real full grain leather?
Yes. Our Transport waxed cowhide jacket is crafted from 100% genuine full grain calfskin. We use our custom-developed Horween Style ECO waxed calfskin, tanned via a dual vegetable-and-wax process for premium density, natural grain texture, and a rich two-tone patina that evolves with regular wear.
Is the Transport leather jacket oversized or regular fit?
This Transport jacket features a signature short, wide oversized silhouette with a cropped hem and roomy armholes, true to the classic heritage design. It fits relaxed by default; size down if you prefer a more tailored, regular fit.
How does waxed calfskin compare to horsehide leather?
Our ECO waxed calfskin has a fine, tight pore structure comparable to premium horsehide, with a similarly rich break-in patina. The key difference is that calfskin does not develop the large loose grain common to horsehide, offering a more uniform, refined surface while still retaining all the character of natural full grain leather.
What size should I get for the waxed cowhide Transport jacket?
We recommend ordering your usual size for a true oversized fit. For reference, our model who is 178cm / 73kg wears a size M. European and North American customers may prefer to size up one size for a more relaxed, layered fit. You can also refer to our detailed flat-measure size chart above for precise dimensions.
Can I wear the waxed cowhide jacket in the rain?
The waxed finish provides natural water resistance, and light rain will bead off the surface. If the jacket gets wet, gently pat dry with a soft cloth and air dry in a cool, shaded area — do not use heat or direct sun to dry it. Heavy or prolonged rain may gradually wear the wax coating, which can be restored with periodic re-waxing.
Why are there natural marks on the leather surface?
Minor marks such as healed scars, insect marks, grain variation and subtle pigment differences are natural characteristics of genuine full grain leather. They are not defects — they are proof that the hide is uncorrected and full grain, and they will add to the unique, personal character of your jacket as it ages.
What hardware is used on the Transport leather jacket?
We use premium period-correct hardware throughout: YKK MILDEX brass-core snap fasteners for a vintage matte silver finish, and a custom IDEAL #7 two-way zipper with large ring pulls, the classic specification for British hunting jackets, designed for easy use even with gloves.
What seasons is the waxed calfskin jacket suitable for?
The 1.2mm full grain calfskin with 200g/m² cotton tartan lining is ideal for spring, autumn and mild winter days. It can be layered over thin sweaters or hoodies in colder weather, and worn open over shirts for a lightweight casual look in transitional seasons.
