CWU 45P Flight Jacket MIL-J-83388B Reproduction
Description
The REAL SIMONS CWU-45/P Flight Jacket is a rigorous, historically faithful reproduction of the iconic U.S. Air Force cold-weather flight jacket, engineered to honor the MIL-J-83388B standard while elevating performance with modern technology.
Originally introduced in the late 1970s as the successor to the MA-1 and WEP jackets, the CWU-45/P served USAF and naval aviation crews for decades, earning its place as a timeless military staple.
Our version reimagines this heritage piece with meticulous attention to detail and innovative materials, delivering both authentic vintage character and superior everyday wearability.
Details
Fabric and Shell Technology
The jacket’s outer shell is constructed from high-gloss Type 66 nylon, carefully selected to replicate the distinct sheen and hand of the original military issue fabric. This durable, lightweight material maintains its shape and structure, offering the same rugged performance required for aviation use while retaining the vintage aesthetic that defines classic flight jackets.
3M Thinsulate 120g Insulation
A key innovation of our CWU-45/P is the upgrade from the original acrylic-based lining to 120g/sqm composite 3M Thinsulate functional wadding. While the original military filling was state-of-the-art for its time, modern wearers face common issues like static buildup, poor moisture management, and reduced warmth in humid conditions.
Our 3M insulation addresses these pain points while outperforming the original in every category:
✅ Higher thermal efficiency than vintage military fillings, delivering superior warmth without bulk
✅ Significantly lighter and more comfortable for all-day wear
✅ Static-resistant construction to eliminate cling and discomfort
✅ Advanced moisture-wicking properties that prevent warmth loss in humid environments
✅ Durable, easy-care design that resists degradation with washing and repeated use
Fit & Silhouette: Faithful to the MIL-J-83388B pattern, with a tailored military cut that balances structure and mobility, ideal for both everyday wear and vintage-inspired styling.
Cuffs & Hem: Ribbed knit cuffs and hem mirror the original design, providing a secure fit to lock in warmth while maintaining the classic flight jacket look.
Functional Pockets: Includes the iconic sleeve utility pocket and front hand warmer pockets, true to the jacket’s aviation heritage.
Labeling & Hardware: Features period-accurate labeling and hardware, with every component sourced and tested to meet our rigorous quality standards, on par with premium Japanese reproductions like Buzz Rickson’s and Real McCoy’s.

TYPE CWU-45PMlL-J-8388B
The CWU-45/P traces its roots to the MIL-J-83388A specification released in 1973, later renamed CWU-45/P in 1977 and evolving through five generations (83388A to 83388E) into the 1990s.
We’ve built this reproduction on the second-generation MIL-J-83388B standard, which was the first to feature the official "CWU-45/P" nomenclature on its label.
CWU 45P Flight Jacket Reissue Description
Unlike generic "lookalike" reproductions, we invest heavily in historical research and reverse engineering to capture the jacket’s authentic era-specific character.
Every detail is crafted to align with the original military specifications, avoiding the "cheap replica" look common in mass-produced alternatives.
The result is a jacket that embodies the "authentic taste" of the original CWU-45/P, with a silhouette, fit, and finish that matches the iconic military aesthetic down to the smallest detail.
