1950s USA B-15C flight jacket cotton wool ribbed
Description
Faithfully recreated B-15C jacket to original MIL-J-6251 specifications, available in both Olive Drab and iconic Navy Blue, with upgraded 3M insulation for all-day comfort.
Introduced in 1947 as the successor to the B-15B, the USAF B-15C was the final evolution of the iconic B-15 series and one of the most recognizable flight jackets in American military history.Initially produced in Olive Drab (OD) nylon—using surplus fabric from B-15B production—the B-15C underwent a historic color change following the official establishment of the U.S. Air Force in 1946. In 1949, the USAF approved blue uniforms for all personnel, and the Navy Blue B-15C entered service around 1950. Aside from color, both versions were identical, built to the single military specification MIL-J-6251.This jacket achieved lasting cultural fame when Marilyn Monroe wore a Navy Blue B-15C during her legendary 1954 USO tour of Korea, cementing its status as both a military workhorse and a timeless style icon.

Modern Comfort Upgrade: Better Than Original
While we respect history, we refuse to compromise on modern wearability. Original B-15C jackets used a wool-on-cotton batting insulation that had significant drawbacks:
- Prone to moth damage and mildew
- Extremely heavy when wet
- Slow to dry
- Clumps and deteriorates over time
We could have reproduced this outdated insulation—but we chose to build a jacket you’ll actually want to wear every day. After 12 months of testing, we developed our exclusive dual-layer insulation system:
- 350g Double-Sided Lamb’s Wool Lining: Provides exceptional warmth and softness
- 60g 3M Thinsulate Insulation: Adds lightweight, water-resistant warmth that won’t clump or degrade
The result? A jacket that is warmer than the original military issue, yet significantly lighter, more breathable and easier to care for. It retains all the vintage look while solving the practical problems that make original jackets unwearable for daily use.

Type B-15C Intermediate Flight Jacket (MIL-J-6251)
The Type B-15C Intermediate Flight Jacket (MIL-J-6251) was first released in 1947 in Olive Drab nylon, carrying over surplus B-15B fabric and color after the jacket’s initial design .
Although the U.S. Air Force was formally established in September 1946, its own Air Force Blue uniform palette wasn’t approved until 1949, leading to the debut of the blue B-15C around 1950—identical to the OD version except for color.
This intermediate-weight jacket bridged heavy shearling bombers and lighter MA-1s, remaining an icon of early USAF flight gear.
