The marshalling yard has many parallel tracks, which are used to store trains outside the main line without interfering with traffic. Our car coat is crafted from premium horsehide sourced from Shinki Leather—a world-renowned professional horsehide tannery founded in 1951 in Himeji City, Japan, a region with a 1500-year history of leather craftsmanship.
What sets Shinki horsehide apart is its meticulous craftsmanship and traditional tanning processes. Shinki is the only tannery in Japan that still performs full-set production of cordovan from raw hide to finished product, and it using pit-tank vegetable tanning for horsehide—a rare practice even in the 1970s.
Shinki horsehide boasts exceptional rigidity and a dense, tactile grain, with a naturally glossy finish that enhances its luxurious appearance. Unlike mass-produced leather treated with chrome tanning, Shinki’s vegetable-tanned horsehide ages gracefully, absorbing the traces of daily wear to create a one-of-a-kind patina that becomes more personalized and charming over the years.
