Details
Outer fabric: Heavy custom Jungle Cloth
The original N-2 Parka’s outer shell was made from heavyweight Jungle Cloth, a military-grade cotton fabric prized for its durability, wind resistance, and distinct surface texture.
We’ve recreated this fabric from the ground up to match the exact feel and performance of the 1940s specification:
- Material: Custom-woven high-density roped cotton (Jungle Cloth)
- Construction: 30mm long-staple cotton yarns, dyed using the original piece-dye process before weaving
- Texture: Characteristic vertical corduroy-like surface texture, created by double-ply twisted yarns woven on industrial looms
- Performance: Rugged, tear-resistant, and windproof, with a subtle sheen that develops a unique patina with wear, just like the original military-issued fabric.
Lining and insulation: modern upgraded wool blend lining
The original N-2 Parka used a heavy wool lining, which while warm, could be prone to shedding, moth damage, and inconsistent warmth in damp conditions. We’ve refined the lining formula to balance historical accuracy with modern practicality:
- Blend: 10% Alpaca Wool / 50% Wool / 40% Synthetic Fiber
- Performance:
✅ Matches the warmth-to-weight ratio of the original military lining
✅ Resists moisture and humidity, preventing heat loss in damp weather
✅ Anti-moth treated to prevent damage during storage
✅ Reduced shedding for everyday wear comfort
✅ Soft, consistent hand-feel that stays plush with use - Coverage: Full lining throughout the body and attached hood, delivering complete head-to-thigh warmth.
Restore the details of the first year
Every detail of our N-2 Parka is recreated to match the first-generation 1940s specification:
- USN Chest Stamp: Authentic period-correct ink stamp on the chest, matching the font and placement of original Navy parkas
- Cuff Ribbing: Original-style inner ribbed cuffs to seal in warmth
- Patch Pockets: Flap-covered side pockets, identical in size, placement, and closure to the military design
- Waist Cinch: Functional internal drawstring waist to adjust fit and block wind
- Hardware: Heavy-duty period-accurate buttons and fasteners, selected for durability and vintage aesthetic
- Silhouette: Faithful reproduction of the straight-cut, mid-thigh length of the first-generation parka, with the same roomy, functional fit designed to be worn over layers.

N-2 Parka Historical Background
The N-2 Parka was born from the U.S. Navy’s need for a dedicated cold-weather uniform for personnel stationed in the harshest
Service time: Late 1940s through the 1960s
Allotted to: U.S. Navy sailors and airmen serving in Alaska, the Aleutian Islands, and Arctic duty stations, including submarine and destroyer crews
Design Positioning: The N-2 was developed as a direct response to the limitations of the N-1 Deck Jacket in extreme cold. It extended the jacket’s length to provide greater torso coverage, added a fully lined hood for head and neck protection, and upgraded insulation to meet the demands of Arctic temperatures.
Relationship with N-1 Deck Jacket
The N-2 Parka is often called the "N-1 Parka" or "Arctic N-1," as it shares the same Jungle Cloth outer shell material as the N-1 Deck Jacket, but with key functional upgrades:
Full-length design: Longer hemline to cover the thighs, blocking wind and snow
Attached hood: Essential for Arctic conditions, fully lined for warmth
Enhanced insulation: Upgraded lining for greater thermal efficiency
Improved closure system: Button-front platelet for better wind resistance
It can be seen as the U.S. Navy’s equivalent of the Army’s iconic B-7 Parka, purpose-built for maritime cold-weather service.
REAL SIMONS's retro philosophy: Faithful to the original, yet surpassing the original.
Creating an authentic N-2 Parka reproduction requires far more than copying a pattern. It demands deep historical research, reverse engineering of original military specifications, and obsessive attention to detail—especially for such a rare piece.
At REAL SIMONS, we spent years sourcing vintage reference pieces, military technical manuals, and period photographs to ensure our N-2 stays true to the 1940s first-generation design. Our goal was simple: capture the "authentic taste" of the original parka, while improving the lining to meet modern standards of comfort and durability.
Unlike mass-produced replicas that cut corners on materials or details, we’ve recreated every element of the N-2, from the texture of the Jungle Cloth to the exact placement of the USN chest stamp, delivering a reproduction that stands toe-to-toe with the highest-tier Japanese vintage reproductions.
